Configuring free fields

Introduction
It is possible to set the default value as well as the
pre-defined values for the free fields which you can use when creating or
maintaining the master data. With this function, you do not need to enter the
free field values manually every time you create a master data.
What version are you using?
The information in this document is applicable to product
update 407 and higher. If you have versions lower than this, certain features
explained here will not be applicable.
How do I configure the free fields?
- In the Free fields screen,
click on the Configuration button. A Free fields Configuration
screen will be displayed.
- In the screen, click on the
required check boxes in the Predefined columns to set the predefined
values for the free fields.
- A Predefines screen will
be displayed.
- You can type a predefined value
at each row under the Predefined column. The predefined values must
be based on the permitted length and scale for the different data types of
the free fields where applicable.
- Click Save to save the
predefined values or Close to exit without saving the changes made.
- After saving, a green check
mark will be displayed for the particular free field in the Predefined column.
- Click Close to exit.
Fields
Table
Select the table for which you want to configure the free
field values. Depending on your selection, the free fields available in each
table will be displayed.
Columns
Description
This column displays the descriptions of the free fields. You
can customize the free field descriptions. For more information, see Creating
and changing free field descriptions.
Column name
This column displays the column names of the free fields.
Default
Type the default values for the free fields.The default values must be based on the
permitted length and scale for different data types of the free fields, if
applicable. For more information on the data types and their permitted length
and scale, see Release 380: Configure free field format for project and account master data.
For the boolean data type, you can set the default value to True or False as
these free fields are check boxes. For example, if you select True as
the default value, the check box will be selected by default when you create
the master data.
Predefined
Click the check boxes in this column to set the predefined
values for the free fields.
Buttons
Save
Click this to save the free fields configurations.
Close
Click this to exit.
